1.  We'll tell you about the game.

Lawn bowling has its roots in antiquity and has been played where English is spoken since the 13th Century.  There are over 130 Clubs in the United States and thousands around the world.  We are all amateurs and bowl for the FUN of it.

2.  We'll meet you on the Greens.

After you've rolled that first bowl, you'll know why Lawn Bowlers love the sport.  You too can become addicted to the Sport of the Ages.

3.  All you need are flat-soled shoes.

Lawn Bowls are shaped like an automobile tire that is worn on one side and will no longer go straight.  There are nine sizes designed to fit almost any hand.  To learn to bowl, we'll lend you a suitable set.

4.  Lessons are FREE.

Individual and group lessons can be arranged with an instructor.

5.  There are many competition opportunities.

Soon after completing the lesson program, you'll be able to enjoy competing with other new bowlers in the Novice tournaments.  As you gain confidence and develop skills, you can bowl in Club, Division, and National competitions.  Lawn Bowling Clubs enjoy bowling against each other.

6.  Low costs for a lifetime of enjoyment.

A set of four bowls costs about the same as a good tennis racket or one of the better golf clubs and are long-lasting.  From time-to-time, the Club has used bowls for sale.  Club dues are minimal and used for maintaining the Greens.

Excerpt from the Bowls Encyclopedia

"Bowls is a science, the study of a lifetime, in which you may exhaust yourself but not your subject.  It is a contest, a dual calling for courage, skill and self-control.  It is a test of temper, a trial of honor, a revealer of character, it affords the chance to play the man and act the gentleman."

"It is a cure for care, an antidote for worry, it includes companionship with friends, social ability and opportunities for courtesy, kindliness and generosity to an opponent.  It provides not only physical health but moral force."

Lawn Bowling Organizations

The local Lawn Bowling Club is the center of all bowling activities and will be your first introduction to the sport.  Clubs are governed by their own Officers and Board of Directors.  there will be many opportunities for you to participate in club activities as you get to know your fellow members.

National Lawn Bowling is governed by the United States Lawn Bowls Association which has its own Officers and Board of seven men and seven women.  They represent the Seven Divisions established to oversee lawn bowling on the local level.  Your club should be a part of one of these Divisions.  Division tournaments make it possible for you to qualify to become a national champion or to represent the United States in International contests.

International tournaments are established by the World Bowls Board and are played in various venues around the world.

The World Bowls Board reviews and edits the rules of the game to keep pace with changing times.  Each member country adopts or modifies the rules under the auspices of their National Umpire who in turn must qualify the Division Umpires.

The dress code for National or Divisional tournaments is established by the USLBA and closely follows that established by the WBB.  Local clubs may accept or modify this code by action of their Board.  Many clubs wear whites for tournament or holiday play only.  Club or team-colored shirts can be worn with the white.

Flat, smooth-soled shoes are the prerequisite for anyone using or walking on a bowling green.  this is to prevent leaving deep imprints and to remove the possibility that wild grass or weed seed may find its way to the green.
